Information within this resource is going to be an asset to me because it helps me understand a process that needs to be used when communicating with an autistic child. Not only a child, I suppose, but the adults as well that have the diagnosis of Autism.
With Autism, it affects the entire brain but to be specific, it affects the cerebellum, which is the area that controls speech, interaction, gives the people the ability to become stimulated and to pay attention. The amygdala, located within the temporal lobes that are positioned just above the ears on bilateral portions of the head, is the area that is responsible for aggression and emotion, which can explain the withdrawal and inability to understand the risks of a dangerous situation. So in other words, these portions of the brain are underdeveloped and that why their behaviors and communication are delayed.
After reading Ruble et al's research, knowing that we need to give these individuals time to process the information that was introduced to them makes sense. Giving them about 10 seconds before repeating the command again, gives them time to think about what they need to do. Just like a young child, we need to give them time to process the requests that family or even society make of them.

First Draft..........
Well we were supposed to hand in our first draft of our research essay on Friday and I have to admit, I first did it this morning. I believe that my expectations of myself are completely higher than what are expected of our first draft and I had to look at Assignment #15 sheet over and over and over again. Because I wanted it to be perfect and I wanted to have at least 10 pages of writing to hand in, but I did not. I guess I did not have the kind of progress on the essay that I had wanted, partially because I want to see what comments the group has on it and to find out what questions need to be answered. What are ones instinctual actions with a group such as developmentally delayed or autistic when you are trying to communicate with them? Do you automatically assume that they communicate like we do and understand like we do or do you treat them as if they are automatically slower than yourself? Just curious what people think and what their thoughts are. Please let me know so that my essay can have information that is going to be informative to you.

Researching Communication with Autistic Children
Now that I have started to do some researching for my final research essay, I have found a few articles that might help me in my completing the essay. I did find a credible source as well as being a perfect resource for my essay regarding Autism. This source is also an example of an academic source because of the informative information that it contains, also because of the source of the information being the “Department of Health and Human Services”. This resource will assist me in the progress of my essay by giving me a base of information to resource and define what Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorders are and why they have the communication issues that they have. Being able to get a base for this essay, will help me give an insight as to how we as healthcare professionals as well as everyday individuals can communicate with the children diagnosed with Autism.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a disorder that has a wide range of time when it can and will be diagnosed. These kids have a predisposed genetic makeup for the disorder. It isn’t something that will be caused by a medication or immunization, it is something that was going to occur in their life but it was the medication or immunization that unlocked that door for it to become a reality. Who isn’t saying that it wouldn’t have been caused by something else that they would have been exposed to? Take into consideration, Leukemia; that is one of many diagnoses that predispose an individual to illness but the exposure to a medication or environmental stimulus can make this illness a reality.

Why I Love Bees Discussion
Morning Group-
I thought that I would create a post for our McGonigal discussion that we will soon be having. So at least now we have somewhere to post and comment to each other. I hope that we will try to use a different type of communication outside of D2L as was highly recommended by Andy.
I hope we can get a better amount of participation with this group activity than the last. I look forward to discussing the student sample that Andy chooses and hope we can help the writer to develop it into something useful for them.
Hope you all had a great weekend and have a great week!

Procrastination
How do you even begin to encourage people to become involved sooner? Whether it be at work or in my online class, people don't like to be involved and that in turn inhibits me from becoming involved and then I don't get out of the class what I think I should. How do you begin to make it more interesting and get people to want to become involved sooner? Any recommendations or ideas?

New Beginnings
Welcome to my Blogspot!
Thanks Andy for encouraging us to set a blog spot up. It was very easy to do. Doesn't take much time at all. The most time consuming area would be what you want your site to look like and piking out the perfect setup. So I thought it was fun!!!
I hope more people decide to try it for the class or some of you already might have something like this. As for me, it is very very new! Just like the online classes!
Thank you for taking the time to read my very first blog and it would be great to get some feedback if anyone had some they wanted to share!
Have a great night and upcoming week!
